You connected what you already knew about a topic to what you were reading.\r\n\r\nIn this chapter, you will use a pre-reading strategy called <em>Predict<\/em>. <strong>Predict<\/strong> means guess.\r\n<h2>Try this<\/h2>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">1. A <strong>word family<\/strong> is a group of words with the same ending.\u00a0In this chapter, you will look at words that end with -<strong>ight<\/strong>, -<strong>ound,<\/strong> and -<strong>ain<\/strong>.\r\n<div class=\"bcc-box bcc-success\">\r\n<h3 itemprop=\"educationalUse\">Word Patterns<\/h3>\r\nThe three letters -<strong>igh<\/strong>\u00a0make one sound. The letters -<strong>igh<\/strong> make a long \/<strong>i<\/strong>\/\u00a0sound. These letters are usually followed by <strong>t<\/strong>.\r\n\r\nThe word ending -<strong>ain<\/strong> has two vowels that make one sound. The vowels -<strong>ai<\/strong> can make the long \/<strong>a<\/strong>\/ sound.\r\n\r\nThe last word family in this chapter is the -<strong>ound<\/strong> family.
