One way to build your vocabulary is to study synonyms.\r\n\r\n<strong>Synonyms<\/strong> are words that have nearly the same meaning.\u00a0Think about the word <em>strange<\/em>. Does it give a list of synonyms? If not, ask your instructor for a thesaurus to do this task. A <strong>thesaurus<\/strong> is a book that gives synonyms for words.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2. We do not say, \u201cWhat is going on?\u201d We say, \u201cWhat\u2019s going on?\u201d This is called a \"contraction.\"\r\n<div class=\"bcc-box bcc-success\">\r\n<h3 itemprop=\"educationalUse\">Grammar Rule<\/h3>\r\n<span>A <\/span><strong>contraction<\/strong><span> is a word made by putting two words together and leaving some letters out. We do not say, \u201cWhat is going on?\u201d We say, \u201cWhat\u2019s going on?\u201d This is called a &#8220;contraction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"bcc-box bcc-success\">\n<h3 itemprop=\"educationalUse\">Grammar Rule<\/h3>\n<p><span>A <\/span><strong>contraction<\/strong><span> is a word made by putting two words together and leaving some letters out.
