I strive\u00a0to celebrate human brains in all their diversity. I also aim to\u00a0explore brain-based tools for empowering ourselves to reach our goals.\r\n\r\nThis theme-based, integrated skills course pack is designed to meet the learning outcomes for Adult Literacy Fundamental English Level 5, as outlined in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aved.gov.bc.ca\/abe\/docs\/handbook.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">ABE in BC 2014\/2015 Articulation Handbook<\/a>. This is\u00a0roughly equivalent to grades 6 to 7.5 in the K-12 system.\r\n\r\nThe curriculum in this course pack is based on the readings found in <em><a href=\"http:\/\/opentextbc.ca\/abealfreader5\/\">BC Reads: Adult Literacy Fundamental English\u00a0-\u00a0Reader 5<\/a><\/em>. The reader\u00a0includes nine level-appropriate, high-interest readings of 500 to 800 words each.\u00a0Convenient links to the readings are embedded in each chapter of this course pack.\r\n\r\nEach chapter of the course pack contains:\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Pre-reading\u00a0questions that can be used for individual reflection, journaling, or class discussion<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Vocabulary-building exercises<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Comprehension questions<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Spelling lists and exercises<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Grammar lessons and exercises<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Writing tasks<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nFor detailed information, please refer to the Level 5 Scope and Sequence\u00a0document,\u00a0also available in printable form in <a href=\"http:\/\/opentextbc.ca\/abealf5\/back-matter\/appendix-3-level-5-scope-and-sequence\/\">Appendix 3<\/a>.\r\n\r\nThis course pack makes use of a number of graphic organizers to help students organize their thoughts in a visual way.
