This causes the hair to grow sideways or turn back onto itself underneath the skin, rather than growing upward to the skin's surface as expected.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-melanocytes\">melanocytes<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Skin cells responsible for giving the skin its colour pigment.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-nape\">nape<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The nape area sits at the back of the head, between the occipital bone and the hairline.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-occipital\">occipital<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The occipital bone sits at the back of the skull, directly above the nape.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-parietal\">parietal<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The parietal ridge refers to the widest point of the head, also known as the crest.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-symmetry\">symmetry<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The balance on either side of a central axis.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-texture\">texture<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Refers to the width of the hair strand.
