This could refer to natural colour or previous artificial colour.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-extreme-porosity\">extreme porosity<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Hair readily absorbs moisture and chemical products. Cuticle scales are lifted and\/or damaged.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-head-lice\">head lice<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>A condition in which the head hair and the scalp is infected by the head louse. (Pediculosis Capitis)<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-hue\">hue<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>A colour or shade.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-intensity\">intensity<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The strength or saturation of colour.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-level\">level<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The darkness or lightness of colour in relationship to other colours.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-line-of-demarcation\">line of demarcation<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The line where the natural regrowth meets the previously coloured hair.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-medulla\">medulla<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The inner core of a hair strand, which gives hair its structure. Often missing from very fine hair.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-melanin\">melanin<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Pigment that resides in the hair's cortex which gives hair its hue.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-neutral\">neutral<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Colour that does not predominantly reflect a warm or cool tone.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-neutralize\">neutralize<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>To counteract or drab the intensity or hue of a colour.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-non-oxidative-colour\">non-oxidative colour<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Colouring products that do not require the use or mixing of a developing agent such as hydrogen peroxide.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-oxidation\">oxidation<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The process in which a developing agent combines with an oxidative colouring product to turn colourless molecules into coloured molecules for the purpose of hair colouring.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-oxidative-colour\">oxidative colour<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Colouring products that require a developing agent, such as hydrogen peroxide, to oxidize and introduce colour molecules into the hair strand.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-patch-test\">patch test<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The intended colour product is applied to the inside of the elbow and behind the ear to determine if there are any sensitivities or allergies.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-ph-scale\">pH scale<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>A scale from 0 to 14 that is used to determine the acidity or alkalinity of various substances.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-porosity\">porosity<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The hair's ability to absorb moisture or chemicals.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-primary-colours\">primary colours<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>\"Pure\" colours that cannot be created by mixing. Cuticle scales are tightly packed and smooth.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-ringworm\">ringworm<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Ringworm of the scalp (tinea capitis) is a fungal infection of the scalp and hair shafts.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-saturation\">saturation<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The amount of colour or lightener that is applied to a section of hair.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-scabies\">scabies<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>A condition caused by a tiny bug called the human itch mite. If these mites burrow into your scalp, your scalp can become quite itchy.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-secondary-colours\">secondary colours<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Colours created by mixing two primary colours. These are orange, green, and violet.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-strand-test\">strand test<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The intended colour formula is applied to a strand of hair to help determine end result.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-tertiary-colours\">tertiary colours<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Colours created by mixing a primary colour with its neighboring secondary colour. They are yellow-orange, red-orange, red-violet, blue-violet, blue-green, and yellow-green.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-texture\">texture<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The diameter of the hair strand. Texture can be described as fine, medium, or coarse.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-tone\">tone<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The shade or hue.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-toning\">toning<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>The application of colour over pre-lightened hair.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-underlying-pigment\">underlying pigment<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Any pigments that are exposed as hair is lightened through the 10 levels of lift.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-uneven-porosity\">uneven porosity<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Hair that displays one or more types of porosity at different areas among the hair.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-virgin-hair\">virgin hair<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Hair that has not been altered with a chemical product, such as colour or a perm.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-warm\">warm<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>Colours that reflect red, orange, or yellow.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n<dt data-type=\"glossterm\"><dfn id=\"dfn-whorl\">whorl<\/dfn><\/dt>\n<dd data-type=\"glossdef\">\n<p>A growth pattern that results in circular hair growth.
