curriculum vitae (CV)<\/dfn><\/dt>\n

A lifelong account of a person\u2019s education, awards and honors, conferences and presentations, publications, professional memberships, employment, and so forth. A CV may be dozens of pages long; it doesn\u2019t attempt to be brief\u2014as would a r\u00e9sum\u00e9; rather, it is an encyclopedic collect of a person\u2019s accomplishments.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n

elective<\/dfn><\/dt>\n

course which is chosen by a student from a number of optional subjects or courses in a curriculum, as opposed to a required course which the student must take as part of a program<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n

freelance writers<\/dfn><\/dt>\n

a professional writer who is hired and assigned to write specific stories or articles. Freelancers may not be experts in subjects they\u2019re assigned to write about, but they are skilled researchers, enabling them to write about varied topics.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n

courses done mostly online but have some face-to-face meetings - also called blended courses<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n

journalists<\/dfn><\/dt>\n

a skilled writer who has completed a college bachelor\u2019s degree in journalism. Journalistic writing follows a specific style that is fact-based and objective. Journalists subscribe to codes of ethics and behavior in terms of creating factual, verified, and unbiased writing.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n

Periodical<\/dfn><\/dt>\n

a publication that is printed on a regular schedule (i.e., periodically). Periodicals include newspapers, magazines, journals, and more. Periodical titles should always be italicized in your academic writing.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n

r\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/dfn><\/dt>\n
\n

a brief (often 1-2 pages) account of a person\u2019s education, work experience, and qualifications, typically sent with a job application. A longer version of the r\u00e9sum\u00e9 is the curriculum vitae, often called the CV.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n

Synchronous online courses<\/dfn><\/dt>\n

The whole class works through the course on the same schedule and they meet online at specified times. Students must be \"present\" online at those specified times to take part in the class.<\/p>\n<\/dd>\n
