It is designed to supplement the central resource: Self-Publishing Guide<\/em><\/a>.<\/div>\r\nWelcome to the BCcampus Open Education\u00a0Working Group Guide.<\/em>\r\n\r\nWe consider this publication\u2014along with our guides, toolkits, webinar slide decks, and other support materials\u2014an open educational resource (OER). OER are defined as teaching, learning, and research resources that, through permissions granted by their creator, allow\u00a0others to use, distribute, keep, or make changes to them. BCcampus Open Education views its support resources as openly licensed educational tools that\u00a0train the trainer<\/em>\u2014typically faculty and staff\u2014on how to build, customize, and use open textbooks and use open educational practices.\r\n\r\nBCcampus Open Education<\/a>\u00a0began in 2012 as the B.C. Open Textbook Project with the goal of making post-secondary education in British Columbia more accessible by reducing students\u2019 costs through the use of open textbooks and other OER.\u00a0BCcampus<\/a>\u00a0supports the post-secondary institutions of British Columbia as they adapt and evolve their teaching and learning practices to enable powerful learning opportunities for the students of B.C. BCcampus Open Education is funded by the\u00a0British Columbia Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills<\/a>, and the\u00a0Hewlett Foundation<\/a>.\r\n\r\nThe\u00a0BCcampus Writing Guidelines for Articles and Web Content<\/a>\u00a0and the attached Style Sheet [Word File]<\/a> were referenced during the copy editing and proofreading phases of this guide.\r\n\r\nTo ensure that standard barriers are addressed for maximum access by as many readers as possible, this guide meets the criteria laid out in the\u00a0Checklist for Accessibility<\/a>\u2014including an Accessibility Statement<\/a>\u2014and is flagged as \u201cAccessible\u201d in the B.C.
