5 Metadata and Book Info

The following is the information that needs to be added to the “Book Info” page in Pressbooks for all BCcampus-published books. For more information, see Book Info Page in the Pressbooks Guide.

Note: Fields marked with * will appear in export formats and webbook. Fields with no * will only appear on the webbook home page. If you want information that is not marked with an * to appear in the export formats, you should add that info to the copyright notice or to the front/back matter somewhere.
  • *Title: Required (provided by author)
  • *Short Title: Optional. Use only in the case of long titles that may be cut short in running heads in PDF.
  • *Subtitle: Optional
  • *Authors: Required
  • Editors: Optional[1]
  • Translators: Optional
  • Reviewers: Optional
  • Illustrators: Optional
  • *Contributors: Optional
  • *Publisher: BCcampus
  • *Publisher City: Victoria, B.C.

  • *Cover Image: Upload. This should be a book front cover, not just a stand alone image. (Will appear in eBook files, not PDF)
  • Primary Subject: Select a subject. (Subjects will help books be more findable in the Pressbooks Directory.
  • Additional subjects: Optional, but recommended
  • Copyright Year: Year of publication
  • Copyright holder: Who holds copyright? May be the authors, may be the institution, may be BCcampus. Depends on contract. However, if the copyright holder is different from the authors, leave this field blank (it’s a Pressbooks bug).
  • *Copyright licence: CC BY (The standard for BCcampus-published books, although exceptions may be made.)
  • *Copyright notice: copy the below text into the HTML editor and edit to fit the book:

  1. If the book is an edited collection where the editors should be acknowledged as the main creators, then add editors to the "Author" field and add "Edited By:" to the beginning (see Intro to Tourism as an example).
  2. Date the book goes live.
  3. ISBNs can be generated by the Open Education team once the book has been cloned into opentextbc.ca (see "Take Care of Final Details) in Production Process.
